Eric Michael Willis was born on June 7, 1952. As a youth, his primary residence was with his family in either Washington, DC or Southeast Asia. Eric graduated from Roosevelt High School in Washington, DC and subsequently attended college at Tri-State University (now Trine University) in Angola, Indiana where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Upon graduation from college, Eric resided in Benton Harbor, Michigan for two years before returning to Washington, DC for one year. He relocated to Phoenix, Arizona for five years, working for Honeywell. He then returned to the Washington, DC area and lived in Alexandria, VA until his sudden passing in 1990 of diabetes related complications.
Eric loved the Lord, his family, and Alfred Street Baptist Church. He was baptized in the “old church” in 1964. A born leader and athlete, Eric enjoyed and excelled in many sports but two of his favorites were bowling and golf. In addition to serving as Church Media Director, Eric founded the ASBC Sports Ministry in 1982 and served as its first director until his untimely death.
This golf tournament was established in 1996 as a tribute to Eric and as a reflection of one of his lifelong goals.
