Why do we serve?

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

– Proverbs 1:1-7

Promote education for spiritual growth and economic equity.

The Rev. Dr. Gunn Tutorial Ministry envisions a multi-year strategy maintaining a faith-centered organization where education is an essential ingredient to growing in Christ. Active participants can expect to build and strengthen their knowledge each year, in academics and in growing the Kingdom.

Our motto of ‘Pray, Prepare, Perform,’ acknowledges that all things are possible when we place God as the center of our lives. Thus, our vision brings together parent, student, school, and ministry to establish a sound education-centered foundation. Going forward, we encourage all participants to find in themselves, ‘A Sankofa Moment,’ supporting this ministry.

“Sankofa is an Adinkra symbol of the Akan people of West Africa. It symbolizes the importance of African people going back to our roots in order to move forward. Sankofa is represented by a mythical bird that flies forward while looking back with an egg in its mouth, or on its back.”

The egg is symbolic of the future where Sankofa is essentially moving into tomorrow with a clear understanding of the past. This means knowing and respecting the sacrifices that went into gaining the right to educate people of African ancestry in this land.

Note: It has been documented through anthropological facts, that Africans arrived in the Americas long before the explorations of Columbus had even begun.

Therefore, maintaining the vision of those that have come before, is critically important to our progression as a people and as disciples in God’s Kingdom.

Furthermore, we believe that advancement can be attained by educating stakeholders through a comprehensive reading program. Through reading, knowledge of past achievement is gained, leading to an awareness of future possibilities. Combining reading with storytelling opens new avenues to learning and knowledge awareness.
